Yes, You Can Have an Entire Conversation in Buddy the Elf Isms

What’s your favorite Christmas movie? There are so many to choose from, both classics and more recent releases. Are you a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer diehard fan? Or maybe you just can’t stop laughing at Jim Carrey in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. These movies provide us with a collective nostalgia for the holiday season, as we rewatch them with friends and family each year. But perhaps no holiday film provides us with as many amazing quotes that can be used in every day life as Elf. Below are just a few of our favorite Buddy the Elf isms to help you get in the Christmas spirit.

  1. “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?” This is one of the most famous quotes from the movie and it’s easy to see why. Used when answering the phone, this is a hilarious and yet thoughtful way to greet your caller. Buddy is brave: he answers an actual corded phone without caller ID - but you can use this phrase with loved ones when their name comes up on your cell phone, and make their day a little brighter.
  1. “I’m sorry I ruined your lives, and crammed 11 cookies into the VCR.” This quote has so much going for it. Buddy the Elf writes this in a letter at the climax of the movie, but this is a great way to convey sincerity to your loved ones in apologies for little things. Also, we can thank Buddy the Elf for singlehandedly keeping the younger generations aware of what a VCR even is.
  1. Santa! I know him!” This is a great quote to use when establishing shared knowledge of pretty much any topic. Variations include “I know her!”, “I know them!”, and even “I know about that!” when said with the correct inflection and tone. Study Buddy next time you watch Elf so you, too, can exclaim with conviction and passion about all the things and people you know.
  1. “I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it!” Here’s a quote that can be used anytime you’re talking with your significant other and want them to know how you feel. But we consider this quote to be the updated version of, “I love it so much, I’m going to marry it!” Use it freely to talk about anything you love.
  1. “So, good news - I saw a dog today.” Anytime you’re coming up short for small talk ideas, this is the quote to use. Imagine how you can even make weather seem more interesting, or insert a little mystery into the conversation: “So, good news…I saw some clouds today.” This quote is great for every day use at work, with friends, or at the dinner table.
  1. “I thought maybe we could make gingerbread houses, and eat cookie dough, and go ice skating, and maybe even hold hands.” Because, isn’t that what we all want to do this time of year?
