Getting the Most out of Your Halloween Costume
Posted by Justin Grainger on
Halloween is that time of year when just about everyone tends to let loose and perhaps occupy the life of an entirely different character for the day. Some people take it beyond simply dressing up in, say, a Wonder Woman costume and otherwise conducting everyday duties like normal. Some people actually inhabit the character they are dressing as for Halloween.
For those who take their costume and Halloween experience to the next level, it might make sense to create that sense of fantasy, magic, and holiday multiple times throughout the year -- not just on Halloween. However, you might not know the ways of the experienced cosplay artist…
Below, Kids Halloween Costumes & More goes over a few ways to make that Harry Potter costume stretch much farther than just using it once a year.
Join a Dress-Up Book Club
Let’s face it, Halloween costume ideas don’t just come from movies. And many movies are adapted from books anyways. One excuse to dress up monthly is to join a book club. Have each session be themed and require members to dress up in all sorts of fun get-ups. Just make sure that one or more of the themes allow you to break out your superhero costumes you’ve spent so much money on.
Joining a book club is a great way to brush up on your reading skills and it’s also an inexpensive hobby to enjoy. Springing for a ten dollar paperback won’t break your savings and, even if you meet at a coffee shop multiple times per month, it still doesn’t come anywhere near that country club membership price point.
It’s Not a Party Unless it’s a Costume Party
If you’re going to throw a party or show up to a party, what is the point of dressing like normal? Whether you decide to break out your fanciest duds or wear a costume, you’ll make the night more enjoyable and lively by dressing up.
Think about it -- the term “dressing up” means creating an elevated look for yourself. There are few better ways to achieve an elevated look by portraying someone larger than life (Harley Quinn costume, anyone?).
Parties can be themed however you see fit, whether you want to throw something more fun, like a pirate costume party, or even something more adult-themed, like a sexy costumes party.
Attend Dress-Up Events
Events like ComiCon happen year-round and enable participants to dress up as their favorite comic book superheroes as well as their favorite characters from the big and small screen. Attending these events will give you an excuse to break out a large number of costumes, especially if you have extra costume items on hand.
Any Halloween seasoned veteran will start to accumulate costumes as the years go by and another Halloween season is enjoyed. You can get more use out of your costumes by finding reasons to dress up, whether these reasons are legitimate events or stuff you make up yourself on the fly.
Wine and Beer Crawls
Again, if you’re an adult and looking for reasons to dress up, any wine walk or beer crawl is going to be a great bet. Many crawls happen during the holidays and give incentives for those who show their holiday spirit in the way of dressing up.
Make sure that you drink adult beverages responsibly, otherwise you could end up damaging or ruining your costume -- which is the opposite way to get the most use out of it.
Take Care of Your Costumes
The very best way to get the most out of your costume is to take care of it and always store it in a safe and protected place when you’re not using it. Cramming your costume in a box and shoving it in the attic is a surefire way to compromise a costume’s quality. We recommend hanging up your costume and draping it with plastic.
