Avengers, Assemble!

Word on the street is that the Avengers are going to be big for Halloween next year…and every year afterward for the next couple of decades. In all seriousness, you can’t go wrong with an Avengers costume for your child’s dress up collection, or for your next masquerade event. The Avengers as we now know them are here to stay, thanks to Kevin Feige and all the good folks over at Marvel Studios, so you may as well buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Even if you’re not a Comic-Con enthusiast or a hobbyist cosplayer, getting to know the up-and-comers in the Marvel Universe can do you no harm. Trust us, you’ll be thankful for the primer next time you find yourself in the theater watching larger than life heroes clad in Spandex dueling it out during the final battle…then sticking around for the post-credits scene…and the other post-credits scene.

Here are four of the most popular heroes who are likely to play a big role in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the film adaptations of the comic books).

Captain America

If you know anything about superheroes and comic books, you’ve probably at least heard the name Captain America. Captain America leads the core team of Avengers when Iron Man isn’t around. While many different characters, some of the female, and some of them even villains, have taken on the Captain America role throughout the comic book series, he’s only been played by one actor to date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All that is about to change, though, with a new Captain America arriving on the scene soon.

Captain Marvel

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel doesn’t lead the Avengers core team, but an argument could be made that she is the most powerful of them all. Captain Marvel would like you to believe that she’s a loner, preferring to scour the galaxy for wrongdoers and sort them out far from Earth. However, chances are she’ll be making more than one visit back to our world and playing an important role in future Avengers movies.

Black Panther

Black Panther is arguably the biggest breakout success of the entire MCU. The movie was even nominated for Best Picture at the 2019 Academy Awards. Of course, Black Panther himself - also known as King T’Challa - wouldn’t be able to accomplish all the great things he does in Wakanda and beyond without Shuri, Okoye, and Nakia. Wakanda forever!

Spiderman

If you were too underwhelmed by the earlier Spider-Man movies, which aren’t part of the official MCU, to see the newer versions, take it from us that you should give them a chance. They’re actually really good. Spider-Man and his cronies are part of the new guard of the Avengers team, and they’ll help inspire the younger generation to get excited about the Marvel universe. Plus, who doesn’t love that catchy theme song?
