Five Most Unique Family Halloween Costumes

Posted by Justin Grainger on

When it comes to Halloween, there is only a small window of time where your kids will willingly participate in coordinated family Halloween costumes.  Before you know it, they will be picking out their own costume and ditching you for their friends.  Take advantage of that window by dressing them up in the most embarrassing ways possible.  Below is a list of the most unique family costumes.

#1. Go Retro: Scooby Doo & the Gang

Jump back into the 70s with this groovy group costume: Scooby Doo & the Gang.  Dress as crime-fighters Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby to wow the neighborhood.  This costume is ideal for a family of five, however a family of four could always carry a stuffed Scooby for a fun twist. Feeling crafty?  Make your own Mystery Machine out of cardboard for some pictures! Jinkies!

#2. Disney all the Way

There are countless Disney movies to pull costume inspiration from.  Whether the movie is classic or modern, Disney costumes are instantly recognizable and always bring the smiles.  Love Ratatouille?  Dress as chefs and carry around your baby mouse holding a spatula.  More of a 101 Dalmatians Fan? Dress as Cruella De Vil and her sidekick, and your little ones can follow you around as adorable Dalmatian pups.

#3. Welcome to the Jungle

If you want a theme costume to mirror the craziness of your life, go the safari route.  Make each child a different African mammal: giraffe costumes, elephant costumes, zebras, or almost any other animal you can think of.  The possibilities are endless.  And don’t forget the animal wranglers!  You and your partner can dress in safari khaki topped with a bucket hat and binoculars.

#4.  A Magical Halloween

Fans of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter look no further.  Become the wizard you’ve always wanted to be, and bring your family along for the ride.  There is a plethora of costume options when it comes to Harry Potter. Go the classic route and dress as the fearless trio Harry, Ron and Hermione.  Add in a little evil and dress someone in Slytherin robes or as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named himself.  Turn up the cuteness factor and dress baby as Harry’s snowy owl, Hedwig.

#5. There’s No Place Like Home

Follow yellow brick road to this perfect Wonderful Wizard of Oz family costumes.  This idea works well for large and small families alike.  Good witch and bad witch, Dorothy and Toto, Cowardly Lion or Tinman, there many combinations to fit your family perfectly.  You can even include your furry friend in the mix as The Scarecrow.

Group costumes as a family are impressive at any Halloween party.  Kids in cute costumes earn you more points towards winning any contest.  Now all you have to do is get your husband on board…
